TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Now firefighters can finally get the “credit” they deserve. College credit.
Thanks to a new partnership between the University of West Alabama and the Alabama Fire College, firefighters can get credit towards a degree by taking classes at the fire college and by working with their own departments.
Beginning this fall, the new partnership will allow UWA students interested in careers as firefighters or emergency medical responders to receive credit for fire science or EMS courses at the Fire College going towards a bachelor of science degree in technology.
The university also plans to work with students on an individual basis to complete the strictly academic portion of the degree.
Registration for the program starts on August 16th.
