BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On Tuesday, senior women competed in the annual Miss Alabama Nursing Home Pageant.
The finals of the statewide competition were held in Birmingham.
Verdell Goodson, who represented Enterprise Health and Rehab Center, was named the winner of the event.
The 79-year-old says she’s honored to win the competition.
“Being in a nursing home gives us another chapter on life, and we can carry on some things that maybe we were not able to do earlier in life,” Goodson said. “I am just thrilled to be here and so blessed to be representing the state of Alabama.”
She will now serve as a spokeswoman for the Alabama Nursing Home Association.
