Etowah County offering gun law training

GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama county is training business owners and school administrators about a new state gun law that takes effect Aug. 1.

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Department and prosecutors are offering the session on Wednesday in Gadsden.

The Republican-backed bill passed the Legislature in May, and Gov. Robert Bentley signed it into law.

Employees can have firearms in their cars at work under the law, and businesses can’t be sued for any harm resulting from those weapons.

The law also makes it tougher for sheriffs to deny permits for concealed weapons.

A lawyer with the state attorney general’s office will participate in the legal training session.
