Four charged in Helena car thefts

HELENA, Ala. (WIAT) — Helena Police charged four men with breaking into vehicles at Old Cahaba subdivision on Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning, someone called police saying cars were being looted in the neighborhood.

Police arrived and took four men into custody.

The suspects include three juveniles whose names will not be released.

A 22-year-old was also arrested.

Police found items stolen from 34 vehicles, as well as with two stolen cars.

Of the 34 items that were recovered, police found a Bronze Star Medal belonging to Sgt. Michael P. Cooner.

The medal, which can be viewed below, was awarded to Sgt. Cooner for his actions in Iraq in 2006. The Helena Police Department is hoping to find Sgt. Cooner and return his medal to him.
