Tied up: Father and son capture car burglar in Sylvan Springs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A father and son made a swift decision on Wednesday morning and captured a car burglar, holding the suspect until authorities arrived on scene.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a car break-in at the 5700 block of Grove Circle in Sylvan Springs around 5:00 a.m.

The son said his father informed him that a man was approaching their home. He then looked outside to see a light on inside one of the family’s cars.

He went outside and confronted the suspect, 31-year-old Kristopher Charles Robey, and Robey attempted to flee the scene.

However, he wasn’t quick enough. The son caught him and, with his father’s assistance, tied Robey with rope until officers arrived on scene.

Robey was taken into custody and charged with unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, third degree theft of property and third degree criminal trespassing.

He’s currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail with multiple bonds totaling $20,500.
