BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — In a statement from earlier Thursday morning, Superintendent Craig Witherspoon announced that the Birmingham City Schools have been placed on accreditation probation.

The probation stems from a report filed by AdvancEd Special Review Team, who visited the district back in May.

Witherspoon also said that, while they are on probation, all Birmingham schools remain accredited. The district is now taking steps to address the issues.
