BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)– Birmingham fire investigators will be back at the scene of an abandoned motel fire Thursday morning. It’s the second time they’ve been called out in several weeks to put out a blaze at the location. Fire crews spent the night out at the former Adams Inn off 3rd Avenue North. The 3 alarm fire broke out around 8:00 o’clock last night.
The fire was so big people could see the flames while traveling along I-65. It took crews over an hour just to contain the fire. Chief CW Mardis says no one was found inside the building. He adds that the fire started in the office area, but they are not sure how it started. Chief Mardis says the city will evaluate the building, and if it is deemed unsafe, it will eventually be torn down.
