TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT)- The Tuscaloosa Police Department took two suspects in custody after responding to a burglary in progress in the Downs neighborhood early Sunday morning around 12:30am.
When officers approached the driveway where the suspects were, they began to flee the site. The officers identified themselves as law enforcement and told the driver of the vehicle to stop. The driver then began driving towards the officers. The officers responded by firing their weapons.
One officer was brushed by the vehicle as it left the scene. As other officers close to the area began to respond, the suspect behind the wheel rammed a police car and almost hit another. There was a short pursuit and jumped out of the vehicle at the 800 block of Hargrove Road and were captured on foot.
Officers went back to the suspect vehicle and saw that it had been forcibly entered.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Marcus Johnson, 26 and has been charged with three counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Burglary 3rd, one count of Possession of Burglar’s Tools and two counts of Reckless Endangerment.
The second suspect Zhalil Ware, 19, has been charged with Burglary 3rd and Possession of Burglar’s Tools.
Both suspects are in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
