HANCEVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (2X): Police have arrested and charged two men in connection with a homicide in Cullman County.
Terry Mikel and Charles Christopher Burks were arrested around 10:27 p.m. on July 28. After questioning, investigators found enough evidence to charge both with murder.
No bond has been set for either men.
According to a release from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Angela Annette Mikel was found inside a vacant residence on July 28, 2013.
A missing persons report had been filed for Mikel earlier in the day after relatives became concerned that she never returned home after visiting her sister on July 27.
Information was gathered from Mikel’s relatives that indicated she was separated from her husband and had filed for a Protection From Abuse order earlier in the week following domestic violence issues.
No one was at the home of her estranged husband, Terry Mikel, when sheriff’s deputies arrived.
The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office later received a report around 5:30 p.m. that Mikel’s body was discovered at a vacant home nearby.
Upon investigation, she appeared to have been shot multiple times with a small caliber weapon.
Later, Terry Mikel and his step-son, Charles Christopher Burks, were reportedly seen running into a wooded area near Hanceville.
When sheriff’s deputies learned of that information, they moved quickly to set up a perimeter.
An Alabama State Trooper helicopter and Cullman County K-9 units provided assistance in the search for Terry Mikel and Burks.
Shortly thereafter, the suspects were located by helicopter pilots using an infrared radar system.
State troopers then helped deputies locate the suspects.
Both men were arrested around 10:27 p.m.
UPDATE: The alert has been canceled. Suspects are now in custody according to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office website.
ORIGINAL: According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office website, an alert has been issued for two suspects in a homicide investigation.
Terry Mikel is wanted for questioning with the homicide in the area, and the other subject is Chris Burk, described to be about 25 years old, and was last seen wearing a blue sleeved t-shirt and jeans.
They were last seen in the area of County Road 520.
