BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — More and more Americans are continuing to get a handle on their mortgage payments.
Nationally, the number of foreclosures continues to drop.
Mortgage researcher CoreLogic examined statistics gathered over a 12-month period from May of 2012 to May of 2013.
According to the data, 52,000 foreclosures were finalized in May of 2013.
Comparatively, that’s far less than the same month in 2012. In May of 2012, 71,000 foreclosures were finalized.
Foreclosures in Alabama accounted for just over 6,400 of the overall numbers compiled in May of 2013.
Since the financial crisis began in September of 2008, approximately 4.4 million mortgages have ended in foreclosure.
