TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Information is still coming in about a late night high speed crash in Tuscaloosa.

The crash involved three vehicles, two of which were Tuscaloosa police cars. There was one fatality.

Alabama State Troopers have confirmed that the person that killed was not a Tuscaloosa police officer.

Information is still coming in as to what led to the high speed chase. It ended on Highway 82 East in Tuscaloosa just after 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.

According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, officers responded to a call about a burglary in progress at an apartment complex located on Skyland Boulevard. It was later changed to a robbery call while officers were on their way to the complex.

When they arrived, officers saw suspects entering a white SUV. The suspects fled the parking lot when officers tried to stop them.

What ensued was a high-speed chase. Officers pursued the vehicle as it traveled down Skyland Boulevard and then onto McFarland Boulevard.

A short while later, the SUV collided with a police vehicle and 29-year-old Ronald Gilbert Hoover Jr. was ejected from the vehicle. Hoover Jr. died on the scene.

Two others inside the SUV sustained injuries and were transported to DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa where their injuries were treated. They were later released.

One other person who was inside the vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries sustained during the crash.

An officer with the Tuscaloosa Police Department was injured during the accident. The officer was taken to DCH for treatment.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department says the Alabama Department of Public Safety was called to the scene and is investigating the accident.
