LINCOLN, Ala. (WIAT) — A home invasion and rape reported in Talladega County has raised concern in cities around the area, including the town of Lincoln.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon in the Munford area.

According to the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, a man posing as a door-to-door salesman forced his way into a home in the Munford area. The man then robbed, raped, and sodomized a 67-year-old woman.

The Lincoln Police Department wrote the following message on their Facebook page encouraging residents to not open or unlock their doors for strangers:

Do not open your door for anyone selling anything. We have had a terrible thing happen in our county where a woman was assaulted. Please be mindful of people and your surroundings. All of you are important and special to us. We will catch this evil person quick as humanly possible. Good will prevail…

“It’s sick, you know. It’s like you hear about that and you hear your dogs barking and you know, you kind of want to get prepared for the worst now,” Lincoln resident William Santivasci said.

Police say the suspect is a man in his twenties to thirties. He was wearing a sleeveless white t-shirt and tan cargo shorts.

They say he is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds.

He was seen driving an unknown make and model white four-door sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office.
