HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — High school marching bands often perform in parades. That’s not a new concept. However, usually those parades are held within the city where the school is located.

One parade is taking the Homewood High School band over 2,000 miles from home.

The Homewood High School Patriot Marching Band is preparing to march in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, on January 1,2014.

Although the gig in California is five months away, the band is already raising money for the trip.

They’re holding a “March to the Roses Gala” on August 29, 2013. The public is invited to attend the gala.

The band is asking for donations for the silent auction portion of the event.

All auction items are due by August 9, 2013.

Any money raised at the event goes towards making it possible for the more than 350-member band to make the trip. Their goal is to raise $75,000.

Anyone interested in donating to the silent auction can do so by contacting Shailey Kile at skkile@charter.net, Mary Paris at paristeach2@gmail.com or Laurie Zelinski at llduncan@bellsouth.net.
