TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) –Alabama head coach Nick Saban founded the Nick’s Kids charity while coaching at Michigan State.

Since then, the foundation has received more than $4,000,000 in donations.  Saban and his wife attended the annual luncheon on the Alabama campus Thursday.  The Alabama team met with fans and signed autographs.

Saban says he founded the organization based on what his father taught him growing up.

With the Crimson Tide hitting the practice field for the first time, Saban says he’s ready to get things started.

“Obviously we are very excited about the opportunities that this team has you know for what they can choose to accomplish this season by what they do everyday and how they do it ,” says Saban.

Saban also added that today is his favorite day of the year.
