BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A fire at an abandoned house broke out on Thursday evening, prompting a response from the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

The first call was received around 10:02 p.m. and the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded only three minutes later at 10:05 p.m.

The fire started at a house located at 3rd Avenue and 50th Street South in the Woodlawn area.

Firefighters on the scene had to battle the fire from the ground and from the ladder.

However, they were unable to enter the house because it wasn’t structurally sound.

The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service says they won’t be able to search the building until it’s demolished because of safety reasons.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
