AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) —Gus Malzahn is entering his first year as the head coach of the Tigers. But the new head coach has a big decision to make. Who will he start at quarterback for the 2013 high-powered offense he plans to bring to the plains?
Malzahn and his coaching staff got a good look at the four prospects who are competing for the number 1 spot.
Many fans favor the junior college transfer, Nick Marshall. Others include Jeremy Johnson, previous starter Kiehl Frazier, and Jonathan Wallace.
“Well you are evaluating everything, how quick they can pick up, you are evaluating how well they can execute the fundamental offense and you are also evaluating how the rest of the team responds to them. You learn a lot by evaluating quarterbacks in 11-11 situations. We had some of that today but obviously when you are not in pads it makes it a little bit tougher,” said Malzahn at his first press conference as head coach.
