Police shut down illegal drinking establishment

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Birmingham Police Department shut down an illegal drinking establishment Monday morning.

Officers responded to a call at 801 Finley Avenue West around 9 a.m. and found numerous slot machines inside the residence.

Members from the Vice and Narcotics Unit responded to the scene, investigated and found the location was operating as an illegal drinking establishment.

Walter Chambers, 67, was arrested and charged with operating and illegal drinking establishment and possession of illegal gambling devices. Chambers is the owner of the home where the illegal drinking establishment was discovered.

Police seized a total of $1,900, eight slot machines and all of the alcoholic beverages being stored inside the residence.
