BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UAB football team reported back to campus this afternoon, ready to set its sights on some lofty goals for the 2013 season.
The Blazers’ first official event of the new campaign was a team dinner in Bartow Arena’s Green & Gold Room. Head coach Garrick McGee and his coaching staff welcomed the team back and are now ready to get back to the practice field.
“Whenever our team gets together for the first time, we really enjoy the family atmosphere and the chemistry we have with this team and this coaching staff,” McGee said. “We’re really excited to get back together and to get started.”
McGee said he definitely feels a comfort level he didn’t have a year ago when he was about to embark on his first season at UAB and as a head coach.
“I’m in a better position now than last year,” the second-year head coach said. “I’m a lot more comfortable today than I was at this time last year. I know our team and I know our program. I understand our conference. And I understand myself a lot more. I’m in a better position to give our program direction and get us moving forward.”
The Blazers will hold their first practice of preseason camp Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. on the UAB practice fields.
