AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) — Auburn made contact with their first day in full pads.
Tiger head coach Gus Malzahn may have taken it a bit easy on the guys Tuesday because they’ll scrimmage on Wednesday. But he still called the first day in pads “physical.”
His plan Wednesday is to work on the fast pace with the older guys and slow it down to teach the younger guys.
Auburn’s quarterback race will get interesting in the next 4 to 5 days. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee says it will be a lot to take in for players and coaches.
“More than anything i think you just have to plan your practice out to make sure you’re not overlooking a situation that one guys getting reps in and anothers not because you know they need the reps and especially really all four of them to learn the system and improve but we need the reps to see how they react in certain situations,” says Lashlee.
Among the race for quarterback, there’s a competition for carries in the backfield. Veteran tailback, Tre Mason knows the story all too well. But they’re all family at the end of the day.
“I love the competition. It’s like a friendly brother competition you know. We all are looking for each other to be great and do great things and you know we love the competition and it makes each one of us work harder every day,” said Mason.
