MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT) — The Spartans hit the practice field Tuesday in helmets and shorts.

There are two quarterbacks looking for the starting position.  The team opens with Tuscaloosa County High School.

This is the same team that just lost 5 star running back Bo Scarbrough. The big prospect transferred this week to a D1 prep-school in Florida.

Spartan’s head coach Chris Yeager says one player isn’t going to affect his focus on what the team will do these first few days at practice.

“I mean we’ve been hearing the same thing and I mean Bo Scarbrough is a great back.  That’s why he has 5 stars beside his name. I mean they don’t just give those things away. But we’ve got to get ready to play Tuscaloosa County. We have to play them with or without one individual,” says Yeager.

The Spartans are working with the Guardian device on the helmets. It’s becoming more popular in high school.

The Guardian is a padded helmet cover that is designed to protect from head injuries.
