CARBON HILL, Ala. (WIAT) – Repairs to Smith Chapel Bridge in Carbon Hill will take longer than previously anticipated.

County engineers estimate it will be at least one year before any work will begin on the bridge.

Eventually, Smith Chapel Bridge will be expanded into two lanes.

Once construction and repairs begin, the project should take at least six months to complete.

Until then, drivers are being told to take a detour.
