PELL CITY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: According to St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell, the skeletal remains have been identified as that of 21-year-old Forest Ammel.
Ammel was reported missing in April of 2012.
ORIGINAL: Pell City police tell us several children were playing in the woods about 300 yards behind a home on Oak Leaf Circle Friday evening when they discovered skeletal remains.
Father of the kids, James Skillman, says “I didn’t believe them. I thought it might have been a deer skull, but I walked out and looked at it anyhow and it was pretty obvious.”
Police secured the scene overnight and forensic specialists from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation are currently looking over the area.
Sgt. Don Newton reports that they do not suspect foul play at this time.
Police believe the remains belong to a missing person from the Pell City area, but they will not release a name at this time.
The remains look to be more than a year old.
