BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)– In a statement released Saturday from the First Baptist Church of Birmingham, the church says Reverend Richard Shahan is “taking paid administrative leave to give him the time and space to focus on his family and healing.” His wife, Karen Shahan, was found dead in their Homewood home July 23rd. Police held Richard at the Homewood City Jail earlier this week after he voluntarily went to the department. He was held for investigative purposes but was not charged. Richard was released Friday. Authorities are continuing to investigate his wife’s murder. No arrests have been made.
