BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Law enforcement officials have recovered the van stolen from an 80-year-old man who was locked in a shed for two days by an armed robber, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the van was taken Saturday morning around 9 a.m.
They say the 80-year-old victim was at the property he owns when an unknown man approached him, hit him in the head, locked him in a shed and stole his van.
The man’s son became worried and found his father inside the shed.
Now, they are hoping the van will provide some clues as to who is responsible for everything that transpired.
“Thank God he had family come to check on him and found him locked in the shed,” Chief Deputy Randy Christian said. “You know, in the heat that we’ve had this summer and certain someone of that age, you can get dehydrated pretty quickly, and your system starts shutting down. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.”
Police located the stolen van in the Forestdale Mobile Park near the location of the robbery.
Anyone with information about the events that took place Saturday should contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
