BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Birmingham Airport Authority released a statement on Monday expressing their condolences to the families of the two pilots killed in the UPS Flight 1354 crash.

“We extend our sympathy to the immediate families of the deceased pilots and to the UPS family during this time of tragedy,” Airport Authority President Al Denson said in a statement.

Denson says the Airport Authority is extending its support to the investigation into the cause of the crash.

“The Airport Authority’s role in this matter is to be of assistance to the NTSB, the agency in charge of the investigation,” Denson continued.

The NTSB has not released the cause of the crash.

Data recovered from the cockpit voice recorders revealed the pilots heard warnings about the plane’s rate of descent 16 seconds before the recordings ended.
