HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) – A fire at an apartment complex in Homewood warranted response from the Homewood Fire Department Monday morning.

Calls were made around 8 a.m. about a fire at the Abbey Apartments off of Aspen Cove and West Valley Avenue.

The timing of the fire is likely the reason residents were able to escape without injury.

“The kids being in school, most people being at work, so you have less people in the apartments during the day than you would at night,” said Lt. Jason Hallman with the Homewood Fire Department.

It’s not clear at this time what caused the fire.
