GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — Multiple homicides in the Gadsden area reportedly involving an assault rifle have authorities on high alert in Gadsden.
The first incident happened Aug. 17 which was Saturday according to the Gadsden Police Department’s Facebook page. They put out the following release on Facebook:
The Gadsden Police Department is asking for the Public’s assistance in identifying a suspect or suspects in a double homicide.
On Saturday, August 17, 2013, at approximately 1232 am, two men were murdered on the Meighan Bridge, close to the intersection of Hood Ave. An unknown vehicle occupied by unknown assailants fired into a Burgundy Nissan Stanza being driven by the victims.
The Department believes that there are several witnesses to this incident and are asking those witnesses to contact the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 256-549-4531 or 256-549-4500.
The third reportedly happened early Wednesday morning outside a home on Kentucky Avenue according to published reports.
According to Capt. Bobby Jackson with the Gadsden Police Department, there is a strong possibility that the shootings are related. Both shootings appear to have involved a high-powered rifle.
As of now, there have been no arrests in connection with either shooting.
The Gadsden Police Department welcomes any information from the public. The Gadsden Police Department believes the individuals killed were targeted.
