COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) – Chad Brooks is Brandon Daniel’s neighbor and friend. He’s lived around and interacted with Daniel for many years. Perhaps that’s why news of Daniel’s arrest was shocking to Brooks.
Daniel, a former case worker with the Shelby County Department of Human Resources (DHR), was arrested Thursday after a woman came forward accusing him of inappropriate sexual conduct during a home visit.
Daniel, 29, has been charged with indecent exposure, harassment, theft of property and using his position for personal gain.
“We are investigating one incident,” Alabaster Police Department Chief Curtis Rigney said. “It is ongoing and will continue to be ongoing for some time.”
Investigators for the Alabaster Police Department served a search warrant at the Shelby County DHR Thursday. Authorities confiscated some items from Daniel’s office during the search.
Most of Daniel’s neighbors didn’t want to discuss Daniel on the record, but Brooks, who lived across the street from him for seven straight years, is shocked at the recent developments.
“Every interaction I’ve had with Brandon he’s been great,” Brooks said. “I’ve found him to be a very nice and class and just an extremely nice guy. He is a genuinely nice guy.”
That reputation has left Brooks with a ‘judge not, lest you be judged’ mindset. He isn’t ready to make any judgments until he sees how the case plays out.
“I don’t know anything about the client,” Brooks explained, “but I do know Brandon.”
Daniel is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $40,000 bond. It’s not immediately clear whether Daniel has an attorney or not.
