BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A preliminary hearing was held Thursday for the suspects in the shooting deaths of twins Jonathan and Jeremi Berry.
Stanley Chatman, Dayjuan Tuggle and Quentin Nixon are all facing capital murder charges in the case. Crystal Nelson is charged with felony murder.
Judge Traci Todd heard testimony from Birmingham homicide detectives as the hearing began Thursday morning.
The defense attorneys claim their clients were not at the home in Wylam when the shooting took place.
The mother of the two twins, who was also shot during the incident, was present in court for the beginning of the trial. She was paralyzed as a result of the injuries sustained during the shooting.
The case is now being sent to a grand jury.
