JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jasper girl attacked by a neighborhood dog is making a quick recovery according to family members.
The attack happened at about seven o’clock Friday night when a neighbor’s dog broke free of it’s chain from a few houses away on the 2600 block of Preston Avenue.
Janiah’s guardian says she had a severe abrasion on her head, but no cuts on her face.
Her parents have been at her bedside since the incident occurred.
One witness says a brave neighbor pulled the dog off of the girl while it was mauling her which probably saved her life.
Janiah just started kindergarten at West Jasper Elementary. Several of her teachers are also visiting her in the hospital, according to her family.
The Jasper Police Department has placed the animal under quarantine until the investigation is complete.
One neighbor says he wasn’t sure what type of breed the dog is, but that is is a large dog that appears to be a lab mix.
