EUTAW, Ala. (WIAT) – The return of CBS42’s One Class At A Time program, which is co-sponsored by Pepsi and America’s First Financial, caused a great deal of excitement for a teacher at Eutaw Primary School.
CBS42 surprised kindergarten teacher Tammy Anderson with a $1,000 check as a part of the One Class At A Time grant program.
Anderson was euphoric about winning the $1,000, because she’s already come up with a wish list for her kindergarten students at Eutaw Primary School.
“I love hands-on, the children love hands-on. So, I wanted to use some of the money to buy games for the centers to help them build phonics awareness and to help them build their vocabulary,” Anderson said.
Anderson wants to buy anything that will help her students as they, day by day, improve their reading skills.
She also gives them incentives, such as earning points for learning sight words.
Once they rack up a certain amount of points, students can pick out a prize in the sight words store.
Anderson says loves to read to her students, and she’s hoping that her love for learning will be contagious.
“Reading is the key to success,” she said. “You have to do everything. So, this will enhance that and I want to have a love for reading, a love for learning as well, and I love what I do. I really enjoy it.”
