Judge issues order asking for the immediate release of Chris McNair

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – U.S. District Court Judge Lynwood Smith has issued an order for the immediate release of Chris McNair for time served.

The order has been granted.

McNair is the is the father of Denise McNair, one of the four girls killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church blast. He is also a former Alabama county commissioner convicted of taking thousands of dollars in bribes.

In the order, McNair is asked to be released from the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons as soon as he meets 3 requirements:

  1. His medical condition permits his release.
  2. His release plan has been implemented.
  3. Travel arrangements have been made for him to return home to Birmingham, Ala.
