ASHVILLE, Ala. (WIAT)- A high school senior is dead tonight after a tragic car accident early this morning.

The teen rear ended a school bus on her way to Ashville High School.

CBS 42’s Natalie Tejeda spoke with the teens friends and band director who are devastated.

The 40 plus member of the marching band, flag team and dance line will all be wearing these black bands tonight in remembrance of Ashley Cartier…Some say this has been the toughest day of their life.

Its been a day of tears for Woody Francis, band director, and the Ashville community as a whole.

“She was nice..,” said Tabatha, Ashley’s friend.

Flags hung at half staff and students mill awkwardly digesting the news that one of their own has passed.

17 year old Ashley Cartier, a senior at Ashville, a co-captain of the dance line and a horn player in the band was killed just before seven this morning after her car ran into the back of a school bus.

Tonight – as the sun goes down and halftime approaches, the tight knit marching band group will take the field holding back tears and minus one dancer.

Tabatha says, “It’s what Ashley would have wanted…And the whole dance team.”

“I think the whole season will be dedicated…We’ll carry on…,” said Woody.

At this time the accident is still under investigation. And so far no funeral arrangements have been made public.
