Screening of ‘The Watsons Go To Birmingham’ to be held Sept. 12

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The book “The Watsons Go To Birmingham” is part of the Read It Forward program, but it’s also the inspiration for a new movie.

The movie, which goes by the same title, follows a family as they travel from their home in Michigan to their grandmother’s house in Birmingham in 1963.

Anika Noni Rose, David Alan Grier, Wood Harris and Skai Jackson star in the film.

A free screening of the film will be held at the Alabama Theatre Sept. 12.

Those who cannot make it to the special screening can also watch the film from home when it premiers on the Hallmark Channel Friday, Sept. 20.

It’s scheduled to air at 7 p.m.
