CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT)– While most of us spent the holiday weekend relaxing, the people of Cullman used it to celebrate the sweet potato. Hundreds of people turned out at Smith Lake Park for the annual Sweet Tater Festival. For the past 17 years, Tony Leonardi has put on the festival that takes place over the Labor Day weekend. Attendees can enjoy music, a petting zoo with farm animals, and, of course, plenty of sweet potatoes.

Monday is going to be a bigger show. It starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:00pm. There will be a car show that starts at 10:00 am and ends at 2:00 pm. All of the money raised at the Sweet Tater Festival goes to help fund and support the festival’s original home, Dowling Memorial Park.
