BIRMINGHAM, Ala, (WIAT) – September is National Preparedness Month, which means it’s the perfect time for families to devise a safety plan.
The American Red Cross hoped to get the word across Tuesday at a preparedness rally at Regions Bank in downtown Birmingham.
Representatives helped people come up with family disaster plans and gave them tips on how to be ready for anything.
“September is National Preparedness Month, which is really a transitional month you’re in the middle of hurricane season and then you’re going into the winter season where a lot of people will seek alternative heating sources which can cause fires,” said Chris Osborne with the Red Cross. “So it’s a great time to remember the three steps to build a kit, have a plan and stay informed.”
