Suspect arrested in connection with stabbing death in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – According to the Birmingham Police Department, a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide that took place on Aug. 30 around 10:00 p.m.

James Johnson, 38, has been arrested on a felony murder warrant in connection with the death of 55-year-old John Mullins.

Officer with the Birmingham Police Department responded to a report of a person stabbed on the 500 block of 41st Street North on Friday, August 30. Mullins was found outside and suffering from a stab wound to the back.

The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and transported Mullins to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Johnson is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $75,000 bond.
