BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Barons are headed to the playoffs. This will mark the 16th time the team has made an appearance in the Southern Leagues’ North Division.

Head coach Julio Vinas will have to deal with 4 of his players recently being called up to the major league. But Vinas says he’s not worried.

“That’s what we’re hear for,” said Vinas. “Our number 1 priority is to get the guys to the next level and to the big leagues. You know that always makes our job that much more exciting when we actually have these players we dealt with all season and their playing in the big leagues.”

The Barons take on the Tennessee Smokies at Regions Field in game 1 Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
