BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Police often rely on tips from the public to help them catch criminals.
Now, the Birmingham Police Department is looking for citizens to be its eyes and ears on the streets.
The department is recruiting volunteers for its Citizens on Patrol program.
Members in the Woodlawn community are patrolling designated areas in specified cars.
When they see suspicious activity their duty is to call police.
Residents interested in joining the program have until Friday to apply.
