RIVERSIDE, Ala. (WIAT) — A bizarre turn of events has Riverside police trying to connect the dots.
A body found Wednesday is that of a person of interest in a weekend shooting.
Riverside police say the body of 20-year-old Wesley Wescott was found in a pond just west of the town hall.
Wescott’s step-father was found shot in the leg on Sept. 1 and, according to police, he was on the run.
The body of Wescott’s wife, 18-year-old Christian Stipes, was discovered early Monday morning after being hit by a train. Stipes was also a person of interest.
“Our heart goes out to the family members of these two young people,” Riverside Police Chief Rick Oliver said. ”The cause of death for Mr. Wescott is still under investigation.”
According to police, Stipes was at the scene with the two men when one was shot in the legs. Police are not sure whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.
