BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE (4x): A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing death of 16-year-old Timothy Bryant, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
David Turner, 51, was charged with capital murder in the stabbing death of Bryant. Turner is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
UPDATE (3x): More details are emerging about the stabbing death of 16-year-old Timothy Bryant.
“He was bleeding – just blood gushing all out of his neck and he was in shock, I can tell you that,” witness Shanoa Arrington said.
Bryan can be seen in liquor store surveillance video shirtless, looking over his shoulder and sprinting away as if his life depended on it.
According to witnesses, as Bryant raced past the liquor store a car was chasing him on the street as he ran for his life toward the north precinct.
In reality, though, Bryant didn’t have much time. He had a gaping stab wound and was leaving behind large pools of blood.
He collapsed onto the pavement in the parking lot of a Foodway.
“One of the ladies, she helped him and was holding his wound, and she say he stopped breathing on her,” Arrington said.
As police spread out looking for the attacker, distraught friends and family came forward shocked to find blood on the streets.
“He’s an alright kid. He didn’t trip too much about nobody. He did his own thing, go his own ways,”
Police have a suspect in custody. The suspect’s name has not been released, but police do expect to charge the suspect as early as Friday morning for the death of Timothy Bryant.
UPDATE (x2): The victim has been identified as Timothy Bryant, a sixteen year old black male from Birmingham.
According to the release from Sergeant Johnny Williams:
Officers responded to the injured victim after he made his way to the North Precinct. The officers observed that the victim had suffered a stab wound and notified Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment.
UAB staff later pronounced Bryant deceased.
Officers learned that the stabbing incident took place in the 2700 block of 29th Avenue North.
Officers also learned that the suspect took a bicycle from the victim after the stabbing.
A suspect was later located in the Collegeville Community and has been taken into custody.
Police are asking if anyone has information pertaining to the case, they are encouraged to contact the Birmingham PD at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
UPDATE: According to Sgt. Johnny Williams, the victim was stabbed in the neck at the 2700 block of 29th Avenue North. The victim then made his way to 2600 31st Avenue North in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service found the victim there and transported him to UAB Hospital.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
ORIGINAL: According to Sgt. Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police Department, police are on the scene of a stabbing in north Birmingham. Williams says the injuries sustained during the stabbing are believed to be life-threatening.
The stabbing occurred around 1 p.m. at 2600 31st Avenue North in Birmingham.
