Empowerment Week greeting international visitors

(WIAT) – Birmingham will play host to people from all over the world this week, as the journey to the city for the fiftieth anniversary of the 16th street church bombing.

Workers are setting  the stage to commemorate Empowerment Week and bring together thousands of people from around the world.

Birmingham Chief of Staff Chuck Fauch says the message is to honor the past while looking forward to the future.

Empowerment Week will include the National Conference on Civil Rights at the BJCC with world renown scholars and foot soldiers speaking.

Fauch says five thousand volunteers will help greet visitors during the festivities.
