JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) – An Alabama soldier who died in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon was honored Wednesday in Jacksonville.

Major Dewayne Williams is recognized as an american hero.

Family members say Williams had been stationed at the Pentagon for eight weeks when a plane crashed into the building.
he was a highly decorated gulf war veteran.

Among his honors, the bronze star, purple heart and legion of merit.

Major Williams’ memory lives on through a scholarship at Jacksonville State University
