Standoff in Pleasant Grove ends as suspect takes his own life

PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. (WIAT) —  UPDATE: According to officers on the scene, the standoff has ended as the man, 38-year-old Jeffrey Browning took his own life.

Officers say browning showed up at the home of his estranged wife and an altercation broke out. Browning fired a shot into the ground and the wife fled the home. Both Browning and his wife called police around 3 p.m.

Police, SWAT teams and negotiators arrived on the scene and attempted to talk Browning out of the home.

ORIGINAL: A suspect in Pleasant Grove has barricaded himself inside of a home on the 800 block of 10th Way and has prompted the response from officers from the Pleasant Grove Police Department and SWAT team members.

According to Pleasant Grove Police Chief R.J. Knight, the man is barricaded inside the home and has fired a shot while inside the home.

Negotiators are on the scene, but the suspect is still refusing to come out of the home.

CBS42 has a crew headed to the scene and will update with more information as it becomes available.
