FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) – Glen Oaks Elementary School is expanding its education on civil rights with the help of a the Cable in the Classroom initiative.

Charter Cable and the Hallmark Channel donated several copies of “The Watsons Go To Birmingham” book and DVDs of the film to the school.

The school also received a $2,000 donation from the company.

Administrators say the grant allows the learning experience of their students to come full circle.

“They’re going to have a way to compare the book to the play, to the action movie and also make it relevant to what’s going on today with our [50 Years Forward campaign],” Dr. Aubretta Curry said.

Curry says the monetary donation will be used towards their Adolescent Literary Program.
