One man killed, another injured in Birmingham apt shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- Birmingham Police are investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Devery Bell, of Birmingham, and also injured another man.

Officers from the South Precinct responded to a call of a person shot at 737 Barcelona Court around 1:20 a.m. Saturday morning. They found the two men lying in the breezeway of the apartment complex suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced Bell deceased at the scene. The second man was transported to UAB Hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police are still investigating the shooting and says that there have been conflicting statements given by the surviving victim and an apartment resident who says there was an altercation with the suspects at the apartment just before the shooting.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s office will continue to review this investigation and will determine if charges will be filed. The Birmingham Police Department is still investigating this case.
