(WIAT) – School buses are still rolling in Hoover, but next year they’ll be a thing of the past.

Home buyers like Bryan Congleton says the board’s decision to cut bus service for the 2014-2015 school year won’t impact him.

“The situation we have it’s not an issue, we live within two miles of the school so they don’t pick up if you live that close anyway so it’s really not going to be a change for us,” said Congleton.

Congleton and his family live in Hoover and that’s where they plan to stay as they hunt for a new house.

“I have seen signs of others in the neighborhood and around our area that are fairly upset with the school systems and claiming that it’s going to drive down the price of their house but I don’t see that as being possible.”

Some area realtors are already facing challenges.

David Black, with Keller Williams says many home buyers he’s encountered are on the fence. “We’ve been helping a couple looking to buy here in the Hoover area in the past few days and they’ve been trying to figure out if they have to look elsewhere.”

He says home buyers are anxious to see how the decision to stop bus service is going to play out.

We know other agents who have seen their buyers tell them, we’re going to have to look elsewhere. there’s no way to know how many sales in Hoover might not have happened because of this, there’s no actual number that we can look at but we know from agents that we talk with and people that express concerns to us that it’s very much on their minds if they have children that would be going to school.”

After much public outcry, school officials have hire an attorney to do an investigation into options other than cutting bus service but the board has not rescinded its vote to eliminate the buses.
