BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The images of the civil rights movement are powerful, stark, still, black and white painful reminders of Birmingham’s history.
They were captured 50 years ago by world famous photographer Bob Adelman.
On Friday, many of the images will be on display in UAB’s Visual Arts Gallery.
The exhibit will focus on images from May 2, 1963, when more than 1,000 African-American students skipped class and gathered at the 16th Street Baptist Church to march to downtown Birmingham, an event often referred to as the Children’s Crusade.
Those who wish to attend the exhibit, which is called “Bob Adelman: The Children’s March”, can do so from Friday, Sept. 27 through Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.
