(WIAT) – On Tuesday morning, more than 150 members of the 117th Air Refueling Wing received a furlough letter and were sent home.
Col. Scott Grant says the base is still in a state of shock as they try to prioritize what they can and cannot do.
“Most Americans think that only civilians are being impacted by the [shutdown],” Col. Grant said.
Col. Grant says the Air National Guard and the National Guard already operate on a minimum staff.
As a result of the shutdown and the furlough, a majority of the training missions have come to a halt.
