(WIAT) – Shortly after news spread that 150 members of the Alabama Nation Guard’s 117th Air Refueling Wing were furloughed on October 1, 2013 as a result of the government shut down, Maintenance Group Commander, Col. Scott Grant started getting phone calls.

Contractors have reached out to offer temporary jobs to the furloughed employees.

“I never anticipated such a quick response to a question that was actually never asked, but they felt compelled to help out and some of these are actually contractors who are on the base doing roofing and electrical work,” said Col. Grant.

Grant says he is working to spread the word to the employees and has already received inquires from some about the opportunity to do temporary contracting work.
